L' Arsenal ( tifosi in foto ) ha superato il West Ham per due reti a zero, portandosi, almeno provvisoriamente, in testa alla graduatoria della "EPL". Nelle altre gare successi per Everton,Portsmouth,Tottenham,Sunderland e Wigan mentre è finita in parità tra Aston Villa e Wolves. Almeno 2000 manifestanti aderenti alla "English Defence League" sono sesi in piazza a Bolton. La concomitante presenza di una contromanifestazione di militanti di organizzazioni sedicenti antifasciste e legate al fondamentalismo islamico ha provocato tensioni e sessantasette fermi, ivi compresi tutti gli organizzatori del presidio di protesta indetto dalla "UAF". Due militanti dei locali centri sociali hanno riportato ferite nel corso dei tafferugli tra le opposte fazioni. In Scozia è terminato due a due il sentito derby tra Aberdeen e Dundee mentre i Celtic hanno piegato 3-0 il St. Johnstone. La gara più attesa, comunque, era la stracittadina di Edimburgo nel quale gli Hearts hanno superato 2-1 gli Hibernians. In classifica i Rangers vantano dieci lunghezzi di vantaggio sugli "Hoops" ed hanno anche una gara da recuperare rispetto ai rivali.

Arsenal survived defender Thomas Vermaelen's first-half sending off to beat West Ham and climb to the top of the Premier League table.

Denilson put the Gunners ahead on four minutes after Nicklas Bendtner's pass.Vermaelen saw red just before the break for bringing down Guillermo Franco, but Alessandro Diamanti saw his spot-kick well saved by Manuel Almunia.West Ham substitute Carlton Cole hit a post, before Cesc Fabregas scored a penalty after a Matthew Upson handball.A second period of hard graft and three points at the Emirates ensured a sixth successive league win and, with Manchester United and Chelsea both playing on Sunday, guaranteed the Gunners top spot for at least 24 hours.For their London opponents, though, the struggle for Premier League survival shows no sign of receding with Gianfranco Zola's side now without a point in four matches and hovering perilously three points above the drop zone.

Driver and Glen put Hearts in command with first-half goals

Hearts claimed a deserved victory over Hibernian in the third Edinburgh derby of the season.

The hosts built up a two-goal lead within 27 minutes through Andrew Driver's strike and Gary Glen's header.Suso Santana missed an open goal after the break as Hearts continued to press and Glen had a header well saved by goalkeeper Graham Stack.Derek Riordan pulled one back for Hibs 11 minutes from the end with a shot in off the crossbar.The result consolidates Hearts' sixth-place berth in the Scottish Premier League while Hibs remain a point behind fourth-placed Motherwell, who have played a game more.

Police battle to control EDL and UAF protest in Bolton

EDL and UAF protesters clash with police in Bolton

Police have battled with thousands of demonstrators during clashes between the English Defence League (EDL) and Unite Against Fascism (UAF) in Bolton.

More than 1,500 UAF and 2,000 EDL supporters were in Victoria Square and a number of people were injured.Sixty-seven people were arrested, including the UAF protest organiser on suspicion of conspiracy to commit violent disorder, police said.The EDL says it opposes "militant Islam" and Sharia law.UAF accuses the EDL of being a far right party but it describes itself as a peaceful, non-political group.

Dog bite

A 16-year-old girl, who the police said had nothing to do with the protests, was treated after she suffered a panic attack.Two members of UAF were also taken to hospital with a minor head and a minor ear injury and smoke bombs were set off, the police said.

Sixty-seven people were arrested during the demonstration

Greater Manchester Police said a 19-year-old officer had suffered a fractured finger and another officer was treated for a dog bite.Many shops and pubs closed in the area and most taxi firms pulled their drivers off the roads for fear of violence.The protest, which started at about 1000 GMT, has now calmed down.Protesters for the EDL were escorted away from Victoria Square by police.UAF supporters were then told to disperse by about 1630 GMT.A police spokeswoman said there were now only a few people left in the square.Assistant Chief Constable Garry Shewan said earlier: "The number of arrests already made is a clear indication that this is not a peaceful protest and some demonstrators are determined to cause trouble.

"We are facing a lot of hostility and will take swift action when confronted with disorder."The actions of some demonstrators is resulting in injuries to others. This is not acceptable."The force warned offenders would be identified from CCTV footage and "brought to justice".

Hindu festival

The EDL published a notice on its website with information about the demonstration.It said that supporters would only protest peacefully and they were aiming to have "zero arrests".It stated: "We will not ever submit to the radicals. We will not tolerate their intolerance. We will stand firm and further the cause of the EDL."EDL supporters were warned not to react to any goading from other parties, but to smile and give the V for victory sign.The two factions were separated by barriers on the steps of the town hall, which was boarded up.

Bolton Council leader, Cliff Morri

The leader of Bolton Council, the Bishop of Bolton and representatives from the Council of Mosques Hindu Forum wrote to Alan Johnson earlier this week asking for him to ban the demonstration.But he told them it was not in his power to stop a protest.Before the protest, council leader Cliff Morris said he was "disappointed" by the home secretary's decision."We and the faith community leaders have done everything within our power to prevent this demonstration due to the risk of violence."However we understand under current law his powers are extremely limited."The EDL had postponed its protest, which was due to take place on 6 March, because they did not want it to clash with the timing of Hindu festival, Holi.

Il sorteggio del prossimo turno di "Champions League" ha proposto incontri impegnativi per Arsenal e Manchester United. Sugli scudi, ancora più dei supporters ( foto ), l'allenatore Hodgson che ha dichiarato di sentirsi sul tetto del mondo dopo la più strabiliante impresa della propria carriera. Si prevede il tutto esaurito ad "Hampden Park" per la finale di Coppa di Lega scozzese tra i Rangers ed il St.Mirren.I campioni di Scozia puntano al "Trible", alla luce dei tredici punti di vantaggio in campionato e del buon cammino nelle altre manifestazioni nazionali. Former Rangers midfielder Alex Rae believes the Co-operative Insurance Cup final will be of equal importance to the Glasgow side as to opponents St Mirren.

It is more than 20 years since the Buddies won a major cup final. But, come Sunday afternoon, the Paisley club will be hoping for a change in fortune as they aim to match the achievement of Alex Smith's side.St Mirren, currently fighting relegation in the Scottish Premier League, face a Rangers side hoping to seal the first instalment of a treble, having already all but won the league - and with Dundee United and Raith Rovers standing in the way of reaching another Scottish Cup final.Victory at the national stadium on Sunday would secure a 26th Scottish League Cup triumph for the Ibrox men, but that stock of silverware did not diminish the delight experienced by Rae when he came on as a substitute as they thrashed Motherwell 5-1 in the 2005 final.

Roy Hodgson could savour the completion of a remarkable journey, as Fulham staged perhaps the finest comeback of their history to advance themselves as a 21st century European force.The manager had recalled, on the eve of this Europa League last-16 second-leg fixture, how his team had been "as doomed as doomed could be" towards the end of the 2007-08 season. Yet their progress since they dodged relegation into the Championship has been eye-catching. Established in the Premier League's top 10, they will also have a shot at Wembley in their FA Cup quarter-final replay against Tottenham next Wednesday.But here, on a pulsating night down by the Thames, Hodgson's players etched their names into folklore. "We should just do a Rocky Marciano and retire now because it's not going to get any better than this," said Hodgson. "This must come close to the greatest night of the club's history. On a personal note, I am not sure I can recall such a recovery. I am on top of the world."Juventus, in their blinging gold away number, had brought their inimitable swagger to west London. Their starting line-up boasted four World Cup winners while there were two more on the substitutes' bench. "We could not have had a worse start and an uphill task became even more uphill. But I was fully aware that there were 89 minutes to go. By half-time, I thought we were looking good to win." The sight of the great Fabio Cannavaro grasping desperately at Zoltan Gera to collect his 27th-minute red card summed up Juventus's toils. Il capitano del Chelsea J.Terry si è recato in visita allo steward investito in auto dopo la gara con l' Inter. Il difensore ha dichiarato, anche agli investigatori, di non essersi accorto di avere urtato l'inserviente che ha subito la frattura di una gamba.Infatti, molti tifosi ( altri in foto ) avevano attorniato la vettura del giocatore per chiedere autografi o avvicinarlo. Intanto lo staff medico che sta seguendo il recupero di Beckham ha previsto un periodo di stop di circa sei mesi prima che il centrocampista possa tornare a calcare i terreni di gioco. Sabato è prevista a Bolton una manifestazione della "English Defence League" che si pensa possa portare in piazza qualche migliaia di sostenitori. Fulham produced a stunning second-leg comeback against nine-man Juventus to make the Europa League quarter-finals.

David Trezeguet appeared to have ended the tie with an early goal for Juve but Bobby Zamora soon fired Fulham level.Fabio Cannavaro's sending off for a professional foul on Zoltan Gera swung the tie in Fulham's favour before the Hungarian's neat finish put them ahead.Gera's penalty levelled the tie overall and substitute Clint Dempsey's chip won before Jonathan Zebina was sent off.

Juventus midfielder Felipe Melo has clashed with Bianconeri fans at Craven Cottage ahead of their Europe League match with Fulham this evening.According to Goal.com’s Sergio Stanco, “Juventus welcomed Melo by telling him to f**k off and chanting ‘viola di merda’ (which translates to Purple s**t),” in reference to his time with former club Fiorentina. The Brazilian offered a four letter outburst of his own to the Bianconeri faithful this past weekend but has since apologised for his comments. He is said not to have reacted to the insults directed at him this evening.The Brazilian arrived in Turin as one of Juventus’ marquee signings in the summer but has failed to recreate the fine form he showed last season for Fiorentina.He was also the 'winner' of the not-so-coveted Bidone d’Oro (Golden Bin) in December. Fernando Torres scored twice to help Liverpool keep their season alive by reaching the Europa League quarter-finals with a battling win over Lille.

The Reds started perfectly with a Steven Gerrard penalty on eight minutes after Lucas was felled by Adil Rami following a fine run past four players.Eden Hazard was denied an equaliser by a smart Pepe Reina save, but Torres chipped in the second after the break.The Spaniard settled the tie by poking home following Gerrard's rasping shot.It was an impressive result against an in-form French outfit and gave England a second team in the Europa League last eight following Fulham's earlier surprise win over Juventus.European progression in front of the Anfield faithful was crucial to help salvage the season for a team without a trophy since their FA Cup triumph in 2006.

Terry was later breathalysed by Surrey Police and found to be within the legal alcohol limit.A spokesman for the player said the breathalyser test showed nothing as the player had not had any alcoholic drinks before the accident.He added that Terry answered questions asked by officers and "that was the end of the matter".

David Beckham leaves hospital in Finland after surgery

England star David Beckham has arrived in London after leaving the Finnish hospital where he underwent surgery on his ruptured left Achilles tendon.

The 34-year-old had the operation on Monday - 24 hours after suffering the injury playing for AC Milan that ruled him out of this summer's World Cup.He is on loan from Los Angeles Galaxy and may be out for five to six months."I have appreciated so much all the messages I have received after the injury," he said in a statement."I want to thank from my heart all the Rossoneri. The club, the doctors, my team-mates and the fans.""I truly thank you, the members of Milan, for what they have done for me."Police were present to keep dozens of fans away from Beckham when he left the hospital in Turku by car accompanied by his wife Victoria, who had arrived in Finland on Tuesday.

The pair then travelled to a local airport where they flew off in a private plane."He's in London for the next few days, then he will travel to Los Angeles to continue his recuperation," said Beckham's spokesman.Surgeon Dr Sakari Orava revealed that he had advised Beckham not to fly for "two to three days" but that the risk resulting from him doing so was "small".He described Beckham as a "peaceful and nice person" and added: "Our nurses also said that he's a great patient and doesn't complain about anything."

This message is a few words about what to expect on the day.First of all, well done to all who attended the London demonstration, it was a fantastic success. We had our say, and, even though we don't agree with the communists of the UAF/SWP, we do believe they have the right to free speech, despite them not believing in our right to free speech.

There were 50 arrests in London, 48 of which were the communists, our two arrests were both minor enough for the police to release them back into the protest without charge. Our goal for Bolton is for there to be ZERO arrests.Please volunteer on the forum if you are willing to do some stewarding, as the stewards did a marvellous job last time and will do so again. Everyone do remember that the stewards are 100% EDL through and through, and back them up at every opportunity. Any enemy of our stewards are an enemy of EDL.If a steward asks you to leave the demonstration please do so without fuss, any complaints can be handled later, though a steward will not ask you to leave for nothing. Racism and violence will not be tolerated. You have all no doubt heard about the UAF/SWP infiltrators that were caught doing Nazi salutes in london. If you see any one doing it in Bolton please inform a steward and they will be ejected immediately.For this demonstration, we are not having a 'march' in the technical sense. We will be mustering at a location to be given out later, and then escorted by the police to the demonstration point. This is because the police and EDL believe this muster and escort is to the benefit of the safety of EDL demonstrators in case they come under attack from UAF thugs. This also makes it much safer for the general public of Bolton whos safety is of course a major priority for EDL. So please do not speak of it as a 'march', speak of it as an escort to the demonstration.The escort, will very likely stop quite often as the police clear any obstructions ahead, or control traffic, or wait the back of our group to catch up. Please expect these stops and remain patient while it occurs.If there are any hold ups throughout the day, information will be passed via the stewards. If they don't have the information yet, remain calm and patient until they do.If you have a megaphone, please do not bring it without full consent from EDL leadership. If you bring one without EDL consent you may be asked to hand it in for the duration of the demo, and if you refuse, be asked to leave the demo. Some things were said via megaphone in London that were not on message with EDL leadership.Do not sing any of the 'Allah' songs, they are not sanctioned by EDL leadership.Members of the press in Bolton will have their credentials checked by the police, so there is no need for anyone to take it upon themselves to ask for press cards. We need a fair hearing from the press, and calling them names, or insulting them does not help our cause. We all know we have received some disgusting and inaccurate reports in the press but this does not mean ALL members of the press are against us. There are a good many who are for us, and a good many who are totally neutral. So, keep this in mind. We will have people who are ready to give interviews to the press, any press who desire an interview, please see a 'team leader' steward and they will point you in the right direction.Bolton is a massive opportunity for EDL to show the world that we can peacefully protest, and the world is indeed watching.This protest will have a much more defined structure than previous, and we believe you will all enjoy the protest immensley as well as having our say. We will not ever submit to the radicals. We will not tolerate their intolerance. Crisis club Portsmouth have been docked nine points by the Premier League for going into administration last month.

It means the bottom-placed side are now 17 points from safety with nine games left, making relegation almost certain.With debts of about £60m, Pompey became the first Premier League club in history to enter administration.Manager Avram Grant said last month: "Football should be decided on the pitch not in the courts, not in the Premier League offices."The announcement came a day after HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) formally dropped its challenge over the validity of the club's move into administration.

In a statement, the Premier League said: "Following the High Court's decision that Portsmouth FC's administration is valid the Premier League board convened to apply the League's rules and policies in relation to a member club suffering an event of insolvency."As a result Portsmouth FC has been deducted nine points with immediate effect. As part of this process the board met with the administrator to agree how we will work together for the remainder of the season to ensure that the club is able fulfil its commitments."Premier League rules dictate that clubs entering administration are automatically deducted nine points - a point less than in the Football League as there are fewer clubs in the division - and means Grant's side are now firmly rooted to the foot of the table, 14 points behind Burnley and Hull, in 18th and 19th spot.

Il difensore inglese ha prima rallentato poi ha accelerato investendo uno steward dello stadio. L'uomo si e'rotto una gamba. Terry si e' poi presentato alla stazione di polizia del Surrey, dove e' stato interrogato.

La contestatissima proprietà americana del Man U pare non piacere proprio a nessuno.Se i supporters hanno lanciato una efficace campagna nella speranza di costringere Glazer a lasciare l' indebitatissimo club, alcuni dipendenti della società simpatizzano apertamente per i supporters in rivolta. Uno steward è stato sanzionato per avere cercato di restituire al legittimo proprietario una bandiera anti Glazer confiscata ai cancelli ed un altro idipendente è stato licenziato perchè indossava la sciarpa gialloverde, divenuta il simbolo della mobilitazione dei fans. In "Champions' League" è finita l'avventura del Chelsea. La squadra di Ancelotti è uscita sconfitta nella doppia sfida contro i nerazzurri milanesi ed anche per quest'anno la formazione del presidente Abramovich non è riuscita ad alzare la massima manifestazione continentale.In "EPL" l'Aston Villa è passata sul campo del Wigan mentre nella "SPL" l'Aberdeen ha perso in casa del St.Johnstone.

Sciarpa contro i Glazer: licenziato

I rapporti tra i tifosi del Manchester United e la proprietà del club, i Glazer, sono sempre più tesi. A tal punto che un dipendente part-time, impiegato all'Old Trafford, è stato licenziato perché alla sfida di Champions League contro il Milan si è presentato con la sciarpa gialloverde, simbolo della protesta contro la famiglia Usa. Di fronte al rifiuto del ragazzo di togliersi la sciarpa, il club lo ha cacciato con effetto immediato.Il clima a Manchester, comunque, non è dei migliori e in campo è scesa anche la censura. Non contenti per aver dato ordine di rimuovere dallo stadio ogni striscione ostile all'attuale proprietà, i Glazer hanno anche vietato ai giornalisti del loro canale televisivo, Mutv, di fare qualsiasi riferimento alla protesta.A farne le spese è stato anche uno stewart, che lavorava da 19 anni allo stadio, per aver cercato di restituire una bandiera anti-Glazer al suo possessore dopo il sequestro. Il tutto giustificato con il mancato rispetto della politica del club.

Dai primi accertamenti pare che per il centrocampista rossonero la stagione sia finita e che non ci siano ragionevoli probabilità di un suo recupero in vista della prossima edizione della Coppa del Mondo. Nel posticipo domenicale il Man City ha impattato per uno ad uno sul campo del Sunderland, in una gara ben giocata dai padroni di casa. Liverpool 'in investment talks with US group'

Liverpool have received a £118.5m investment bid from private equity firm Rhone Group, according to reports.

American co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett are obliged to reduce the club's £237m debt with Royal Bank of Scotland by £100m by this summer.The deal would make the New York-based group the largest shareholder with 40%, Hicks and Gillett each falling to 30%.The Press Association report added that the bid, tabled on Saturday, has yet to be discussed at board level.If a bid were to materialise it would be the first positive result of Anfield chief executive Christian Purslow's search for new investors ahead of the bank deadline.
